At the very top of the tallest wardrobe in Nestington, where the grown-ups believe only folded blankets live, there is a hidden door that opens only when a nester is very, very quiet and thinking a happy thought.
Â
Behind it lies the Ballroom of Petals.
Â
The Princess Tulle Dress waits there, glowing in the soft morning light that slips through arched windows and turns the air into floating gold dust. Its bodice is a garden in full bloom, where tiny flowers sway and a certain cheerful mouse in a red bow practises her curtsy again and again, preparing for the grandest dance of the season.
Â
Below, the tulle begins like a blush on the horizon and falls into a cloud so light it seems to remember every twirl it has ever made. When a nester steps into it, the skirt does not simply move; it sighs, it swishes, it gathers the music of the room and sends it spinning into the corners where the shy fireflies wait.
Â
On the night of the Heart Blossom Ball, the chandeliers are lowered until they are almost within reach of small fingertips, and the floor becomes a mirror for a thousand whirling dreams. The dress knows every step before it is taken. It lifts for the running, settles for the curtsy, and blooms wide for the moment a nester forgets the watching world and dances only for the joy of it.
Â
And as the last note fades and the doors of the wardrobe close once more, a trail of invisible glitter follows its wearer home, so that even the simplest morning; brushing hair, tying shoelaces, pouring cereal into a bowl; feels as though it might, at any second, turn into a ballroom again.
