On the warmest morning of summer in Nestington; when the river turns to liquid light and the air hums with tiny wings; the Dragonflies begin their dance.
They skim across the water; leaving trails of gold dust behind them; circling the reeds; tapping secret messages onto the surface of the pond. The elders say they are the keepers of wishes; that every flash of their wings carries a dream from one heart to another.
The Charlotte Emma Dress in ‘Dragonflies’ was sewn on the day the sky reflected perfectly in the river; its soft blue echoing the endless above; its shimmering dragonflies caught mid-flight; as though they had paused just long enough to rest upon the cotton.
Flutter sleeves edged in dainty white lace ripple like the surface of the water when a wish is made; and the full skirt opens into a gentle bell of summer air; made for barefoot wandering along garden paths; for spinning beneath the sun until the world becomes a blur of light and laughter.
At the hem; broderie anglaise blooms like river foam; brushing the tops of clover and wild thyme; gathering the scent of warm earth and long afternoons.
This is the dress for the nester who watches closely; who knows that magic is not loud; that it lives in the shimmer of wings; in the stillness before a wish is whispered; in the moment just before she twirls and the dragonflies rise to follow her.
And if she listens carefully; she will hear them; promising that every beautiful dream she carries has already begun to take flight.
